The ["T'Mershi Duween"] second half was built up as a superimposition of many different subdivisions of the meter. Each player was verbally given a part to play Frank referred to these 'subcompositional arrangements' [Todd's term] as "objects". Once an 'object' was developed, a name and a hand signal would be assigned to it so that "it could happen at any time..."
