Joe Travers, interviewed by Howie Kittelson, Conceptual Continuity With HowieZowie, July 28, 2016

I tried to track down who would have been [the flute player], but nobody knows! Maybe the fans somehow can get that information—because they're so hard core. I was unable to determine it because there were no session sheets, and so it's hard for me to know. And I had a conversation with Dave Parlato. [...] But, Dave didn't know who played flute either. And first thing I thought of was it had to have been maybe somebody who was touring with Frank at the time. But in the Petite Wazoo the only person that maybe could have done that was Earl Dumler, and we're not really sure he was him or not. And I didn't get a chance to get in touch with Earl before the release of the record. So—maybe it's him, maybe it's not. Who knows!

Dave Parlato told Joe [Travers] that on the Energy Frontier takes from Electric Lady included on the Crux CD, Jack Bruce played cello (before switching to bass for the Apostrophe track), Parlato played bass and the previously unidentified flute player was Charles Lloyd.

Charles Lloyd, interviewed by Nick Hasted, The Arts Desk, November 20, 2021

I recorded with Jack Bruce with Frank Zappa. I was playing at the Village Vanguard one night and he was recording at the studio down there. That stuff never saw the light of day. But we were just improvising. Frank Zappa was a very smart, special guy.
