William Ruhlmann (All-Music Guide): "The first album co-billed to John Lennon and Yoko Ono to actually contain recognizable pop music, 'Sometime in New York City' found the Lennons in an explicitly political phase, expounding on such topical subjects as the Attica prison riot and the treatment of activists John Sinclair and Angela Davis. Especially in the case of Lennon's songs, there is an appealing rock style to the material, even if the lyrics limit the record's appeal. 'Sometime in New York City' was originally released with a free bonus disc that contained a live medley of Lennon's 'Cold Turkey' and Ono's 'Don't Worry Kyoko', and an appearance by the Lennons at a Mothers of Invention concert. This slight material now makes the album a two-CD set, and it is priced accordingly."
ZAPPA: I talked to Yoko last year, and I said, "By the way, you remember that 'Jam Rag'?" She said, "Well, we have a problem with Capitol Records. We are suing them, you know." -"Bat Chain Puller" p. 117
I can't imagine that album really sold a lot, anyway....

HAPPY XMAS (WAR IS OVER)Yoko decided, "that the Fillmore performance should end here after this track, without going into the long avant garde improvisation that followed, led by Frank and I. I wanted John to have the last voice on the album, spreading his childhood over us.
If you miss the 'freak out' part.just put a microphone to the many battlefields in the world. You will hear everything—children crying, guys shouting, and the occasional silence created by the dead." So Yoko was quoted in a recent press release of Parlophone UK.
For this new single CD, "Listen The Snow is Falling" and "Happy Xmas (War Is Over) have been added. "Happy Xmas" did not feature on the original album, although it preceded its release when it was released as a single, backed with "Listen, The Snow Is Falling" in the US in 1971 and in the UK a year later.
All tracks have been remixed except 'John Sinclair' and 'Attica State', which have been remastered.
